MRT-4 construction to start in 2021

January 1, 2020

The Department of Transportation ( DOTr) expects to start the construction of the P59.3 billion Metro Rail Transit Line 4 (MRT 4), a 15.56-kilometer line linking parts of eastern Metro Manila and Rizal province,  by 2021.

The MRT 4 was approved by the Investment Coordination Committee-Cabinet Committee (ICC-CabCom) in its December 20, 2019 meeting.

MRT-4 is scheduled for operation in 2025. The line will also link eastern Metro Manila with the municipalities of Cainta and Taytay in Rizal.

With an initial daily ridership projected at 234,433 passengers, the line system will serve 11 stations.

The P59.3-billion MRT-4 project is to be funded by an official development assistance (ODA) from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) as proponent.

Transport Secretary Arthur Tugade said the MRT-4 project will greatly help to connect eastern Metro Manila with the province of Rizal.

“Considering how densely-populated these areas are, which is made more difficult with the lack of road capacities and ever worsening traffic conditions, MRT-4 will be of great help in moving commuters between eastern Metro Manila and Rizal,” Tugade said.

Also approved by the ICC-CabCom in its December 20, 2019 meeting were the Unsolicited  Operate-Add-Transfer (OAT) proposal for the Davao International Airport and the Laguindingan Airport as well as the EDSA Greenways Projects and the Maritime Safety Enhancement Program (MSEP). DMS
