March 6, 2019

The Philippine Fleet deployed five newly-repaired ships to augment maritime operations in different parts of the country, including the West Philippine Sea.

“They would be deployed in the different naval forces area of responsibility, in western, in northern, in central and even in other parts and as to their utilization it will depend mainly on the unified command,” Capt. Jonathan Zata, Philippine Navy public affairs director, said.

“As far as the operational matters is concerned, the unified command commanders would have operational control over these assets,” he added.

Zata said the send-off ceremony for five Navy ships led by Commander Philippine Fleet, Rear Admiral Danilo Rodelas was held at Capt. Moya Boat Landing, Naval Base Cavite on Monday.

The ships were BRP Manuel Gomez , BRP Heracleo Alano,  BRP Tausug, BRP Subanon and BRP Bacolod City.

Zata said the ships were activated after dry docking and other related repairs  were completed at the Naval Shipyard in Fort San Felipe, Cavite City.

He said during the ceremony Rodelas commended the officers and enlisted personnel of the five vessels.

“The most honourable call and excellent service to the Navy is sea duty. I see many examples of valuable and brave sailors who, for me, prove that the soul, spirit and life of our Navy is indeed strong,” said Rodelas.

“The deployment of these naval assets to the different naval forces takes the accomplishment of the Philippine Navy's mission one sure step ahead,” he added.

Zata emphasized the significance of the deployment of the vessels.

“Deployment plays a very crucial role in the Navy's effective conduct of maritime patrol operations, internal security operations and logistics support missions with the end view of better serving the Filipino people, guided by the Philippine Navy’s mandate of protecting our seas, securing our future,” he said.
