Navy to test BRP Conrado Yap by sending it to other parts of the country
August 29, 2019
Philippine Navy Flag Officer in Command Vice Admiral Robert Empedrad said they will test run the BRP Conrado Yap around the country, including the Philippine Rise.
“What we are going to do is to we will test run the engine. We will run it all over the country,” Empedrad said on Wednesday.
He said it will go to Palawan, Cebu, Mindanao, even in the eastern part of the country.
“We will deploy it to Philippine Rise then back here (in Manila),” he added.
Empedrad said once the test run turns out well, the BRP Conrado Yap will be deployed to the West Philippine Sea.
“Probably we can deploy (BRP Conrado Yap) to the West Philippine Sea, a Western Command area of responsibility or in Mindanao,” he said.
He said because of BRP's capability, it can easily pursue any vessel that will poise a threat.
“If there are terrorists or threats (who are) using our waters. This (BRP Conrado Yap) is very accurate. The system is all automated. This corvette is very powerful,” Empedrad added.
The BRP Conrado Yap, which was acquired in South Korea, arrived in the Philippines last August 20. Ella Dionisio/DMS
