The Department of Justice ( DOJ) on Wednesday said a doctor was arrested for selling 150 overpriced thermal scanners amounting to P1.2 million.
Justice Undersecretary Markk Perete, DOJ spokesman, said the National Bureau of Investigation-Special Action Unit arrested last Tuesday Cedric John de Castro for selling thermal scanners intended as donation.
The thermal scanners were reportedly given to De Castro in the form of a donatiNBI in his capacity as chapter president of Lions Club in New Manila, Quezon City.
NBI agents arrested the doctor after it was learned that he was selling thermal scanners for the price of P9,500 each, when its suggested retail price ranges from P800 to P1,500 in the market.
De Castro was brought to the NBI main office for processing and then brought before the Quezon City Prosecutor's office for inquest.
Perete said De Castro will face charges of profiteering and hoarding.
The NBI has intensified its crackdown against scrupulous individuals and establishments involved in hoarding and overselling of items needed to combat the spread of COVID-19 which has killed more than 30 persons in the country and infected close to 600 people. DMS
