NCRPO orders cops to accost riding-in-tandem groups
December 20, 2019
The acting director of the National Capital Region Police Office ( NCRPO) on Friday said he ordered his beat and mobile patrol officers to accost motorcycle-riding tandem groups to prevent crimes.
In a press briefing, Police Brigadier General Debold Sinas said this new plan will help them easily check if those who are riding in motorcycles, especially those who are on stand-by, are armed or not.
“If you are on patrol and you saw a riding in tandem, accost them so that we can check if they have gun. We will try this plan,” Sinas said.
He said motorists know the schedule of police checkpoints usually last for one hour in specific areas.
“This will help in preventing shooting incidents involving riding in tandem and hopefully to prevent all kinds of incidents,” he said.
For those who are working for ride-sharing app like Angkas, Sinas said they just need to show their permit to the police officers.
His order came after the chief of directorial staff of the Philippine National Police, Lieutenant General Guillermo Eleazar said he is eyeing a one-strike rule for police commanders who will fail to curb crimes perpetrated by motorcycle riding in tandem groups .
Eleazar said he will consult other high-ranking officials if his suggestion will be feasible.
Based on police data, motorcycle-riding suspects related murder cases declined 85.21 percent from 338 in 2017 to only 50 in 2018. Ella Dionisio/DMS
