January 14, 2020

The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) on Tuesday said they are ready to deploy around 2, 500 cops to Calabarzon (Cavite-Laguna-Batangas-Rizal-Quezon) region to assist in the areas affected by the Taal Volcano eruption.

In a press briefing, Police Brigadier General Debold Sinas, acting regional director, said they sent around 100 personnel to the affected region for relief efforts but around 2,500 cops were on standby.

Eight vehicles and two ambulances were also dispatched to help  transport evacuees.

“What is needed there now is more vehicles for transportation,” Sinas said.

“At the regional headquarters alone, we have alerted 2,500 people that includes (regional) mobile force company. We also alerted our mobile district in case additional forces will be needed. All stations are full alert only in case,” he said.

While their district personnel are ready, Sinas said personnel from the regional headquarters will be the first to respond so they can still focus on  security in Metro Manila.

The NCRPO chief said they also sent their health service personnel to check on the augmented NCRPO search and rescue personnel in the affected areas.

Based on their data, a total of 1,696 evacuees from the towns of Talisay, Laurel, and Tanuan, in Batangas were rescued by their personnel. Ella Dionisio/DMS
