NCRPO says New Year celebration ”generally peaceful”
January 1, 2020
The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said New Year celebration in Metro Manila was "generally peaceful."
Police Brigadier General Debold Sinas, the acting NCRPO director, said on Wednesday there were no major incidents.
No cases of major firecracker-related incidents and injuries due to stray bullet and indiscriminate firing were also reported.
Sinas attributed this to the "Ligtas Paskuhan 2019" campaign which aimed to lessen crimes and other holiday incidents during Christmas and New Year celebrations.
“The metro wide celebration of December 31 New Year’s Eve revelry was resoundingly safe and peaceful,” he said.
“These positive developments could be attributed to our early preparations and consistent implementation of various measures,” he added.
Sinas also cited the regionwide ban on use and sale of firecrackers and pyrotechnics as the cause of zero firecracker-related injuries for 2019.
Authorities nabbed 20 violators of the firecracker ban and seized P491,000 worth of firecrackers. Cristina Eloisa Baclig/DMS
