NCRPO studying if they need to conduct ”cultural sensitivity” in other sectors

February 28, 2020

The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) on Friday said they still  study if they must conduct “cultural eensitivity” seminars in other sectors  as they are now conducting a three-day seminar on Muslim culture, beliefs and traditions.

“Right now, we are focused on the cultural sensitivity in our Muslim community. For other sectors, we will study it first,” said Police Major General Debold Sinas in a press briefing.

Sinas said they are addressing issues with the Muslim community first as this sector, the largest in Metro Manila,

Around 107 police officers from Police Community Precincts and Salaam Police Personnel of the five Metro Manila districts participated in the seminar which started last Thursday at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City.

He also fast-tracked the seminar, which was supposed to be launched days before the Ramadan, following the incident of alleged profiling on Muslim students in schools and universities in Manila City.

“We just tackle on the sector which present immediate concern which is the Muslim community so we are addressing it now…. Along the way if there are other sectors that will ask us then we can make an assessment,” Sinas said.

“As the situation arises, then we will face the problem… if there is no problem (in that sector) then we will not tackle it for now,” he added.

But days before the issue on profiling, the Makati police also faced a “profiling” allegation after they brought a transgender in their station without a sufficient reason.

The Makati olice and NCRPO apologized for the incident. Ella Dionisio/DMS
