August 27, 2019

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) raised its alert status to blue in preparation to the landfall of Tropical Storm ''Jenny''.

"The NDRRMC raised its alert status from white to blue to monitor the effects of the tropical storm and the southwest monsoon and to facilitate coordination for inter-agency actions," NDRRMC executive director Undersecretary Ricardo Jalad said Tuesday.

The alert status was raised after updates and action plan of national government agencies on ''Jenny'' making landfall were discussed by the council.

Quoting the state weather bureau, Jalad said the tropical storm is forecasted to make landfall in Aurora Tuesday night or Wednesday morning.

"Residents in Luzon specifically Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Benguet, Pangasinan, and Metro Manila are expected to experience intermittent to frequent moderate to heavy rainfall in the next twenty-four hours," he said.

"Meanwhile, light to moderate with intermittent heavy rains are expected over the rest of Luzon, Western Visayas, Mindoro Provinces, Northern Palawan, Zambales, and Bataan. The public is advised to take precautionary measures and monitor updates from their local DRRM ( Disaster Risk Reduction Management) offices," he added.

Jalad said "based on the rainfall forecasts presented by Pagasa, the MGB ( Mines and Geosciences Bureau)  assessed 1,428 barangays with high to very high susceptibility to rain-induced landslides and flooding in thirteen regions to be affected directly or indirectly by Tropical Storm 'Jenny'''.
