Nearly 2,625 minors rescued as Manila implements curfew

Around 2,625 minors were rescued as result of the implementation of curfew hours in the City of Manila. 

In a data released on Friday, Manila Public Information Office Chief Julius Leonen said more than two thousand minors were caught since the implementation of City Ordinance No. 8547 on September 2.

"About 2,625 minors were rescued by the Manila Police District (MPD) since Mayor Francisco 'Isko Moreno' Domagoso declared a 'full blast' implementation of curfew hours from 10 pm to 4 am in the nation's capital," said Leonen. 

The city ordinance issued by Manila Mayor Isko Moreno imposes curfew hours for those who are below 18 years old. All barangays were ordered to y implement the ordinance.

From September 2 to September 20, the highest number of rescued minors were recorded by MPD Station 1 in Balut, Tondo with 458 minors. It was followed by Station 2 in Moriones, Tondo with 463; Station 5 in Ermita with 425; Station 6 in Sta. Ana with 265; Station 3 in Sta Cruz with 236; Station 4 in Sampaloc with 201.

At least 146 rescued minors were listed by Station 10 in Pandacan; 132 at Station 7 in Jose Abad Santos; 125 at Station 9 in Malate; 94 at Station 8 in Sta Mesa; and 61 at Station 11 in Meisic, Manila. 

The MPD Special Mayor's Reaction Team (SMaRT) also rescued 19 minors during the same time period. 

Out of the 2,625 minors, six were found to be third-time violators. 

"Manila Department of Social Welfare (MDSW) chief Re Fugoso said six minors were found to be third-time violators, thus the minors as well as their parents were penalized with 72 hours of community service," explained Leonen. 

"Fugoso said some were ordered to join cleaning activities at the Bonifacio Shrine in Lawton, while others were ordered to join cleaning activities in their respective barangays," he added. Cristina Eloisa Baclig/DMS
