No change in Japan’s stance on Summit with N. Korea: Suga
May 13, 2019
Tokyo--Japan maintains its policy stance of seeking to hold a summit with North Korea without preconditions, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga suggested Monday.
"There is no change in the government's policy," Suga said at a meeting of the Committee on Audit and Oversight of Administration of the House of Representatives, the lower chamber of the Diet, Japan's parliament.
North Korea fired short-range ballistic missiles after Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, in phone talks with U.S. President Donald Trump on May 6, expressed his readiness to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un without preconditions. The Japanese government has protested North Korea over the missile firings. Jiji Press
