No need to put handcuffs on Imelda: Albayalde
November 13, 2018
There is no need to put handcuffs on former First Lady and Ilocos Norte Rep. Imelda Marcos if police serve an arrest warrant following her conviction by the Sandiganbayan for graft, Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Oscar Albayalde said in a radio interview Tuesday. Speaking over dzMM radio, Albayalde cited her gender and age as reasons. "No matter who that person is, if that person is a woman and she is elderly, there is no need to use handcuffs," he said. Albayalde said Imelda has no history of violence. Marcos, 89, was convicted for using public funds to Swiss bank accounts during the regime of her husband, former dictator Ferdinand Marcos. The Sandiganbayan Fifth Division ordered an warrant of arrest to be issued but the PNP said they have not received a copy of the court ruling and the arrest warrant. Albayalde said no special treatment will be given to Imelda. DMS
