Not all 20 cops in Rizal shooting will face admin charges: PNP
July 15, 2019
The Philippine National Police ( PNP) on Monday said not all the 20 relieved cops from Rodriguez, Rizal where a police operation claimed the life of a three-year-old girl late June will face administrative cases.
In a chance interview, Police General Oscar Albayalde said some policemen only provided security.
"Some only acted as security. They were not involved in the shootout," he said.
He added the policeman whose firearm will have a positive result will face charges.
"I just forgot the name but we already have (the result)," said Albayalde.
In a press briefing, Albayalde said the ballistic results are out and investigators finished a reenactment of the incident.
"Last week they told me that they are ready to file a case against those involved policemen, administrative (case). On the criminal (case), we have to consult with the mother or direct relative of the child," he said.
Based on police accounts, the girl was allegedly used by her father, who is one of the subjects of the operation, as a "human shield" but the mother denied this.
Albayalde ordered the relief of the 20 policemen in the incident and told them to surrender their firearms for investigation. Ella Dionisio/DMS
