Nothing to worry if PNP has no leader yet: Año
November 14, 2019
Interior Secretary Eduardo Año said there is nothing to worry if the Philippine National Police (PNP) has still no leader.
In a text message to The Daily Manila Shimbun Wednesday evening, Año said the officer-in-charge assigned by President Rodrigo Duterte is capable to handle the PNP.
"There is nothing to worry because we have OIC Lieutenant General (Archie) Gamboa. Likewise, I grant him wide authority to run the PNP," he said.
Asked about reports that there are two more generals in the president's list, Año said it's Duterte's prerogative to choose outside his three recommendations.
The interior secretary said he did not give additional recommendation.
"It is included for his consideration but it's up to him to decide when the time comes," he said.
"It's prerogative of the President to consider or choose outside of the 3 recommendees," Año added.
It has been nearly a week since former PNP chief, Police General Oscar Albayalde formally retired.
But according to Duterte he is having a hard time choosing Albayalde's successor as he is looking for a "honest" man. Ella Dionisio/DMS
