November 15, 2018
Around 25 New People’s Army (NPA) rebels posing as soldiers burned a day care learning center in Magpet, North Cotabato Thursday morning, a military official said.
Lt. Col. Ehrlich Noel Paraso, commander of the 19th Infantry Battalion, said the burning of the children’s learning center happened at Purok 6, Barangay Mahongcog, Magpet town around 8 a.m.
“The rebels, all in Army uniforms, first tied the hands of the lady teacher, seized her identification card before burning the center,” Paraso said.
Paraso did not say if children were present at the learning center when this happened.
He said insurgents have been trying to get P50,000 in cash from barangay residents. The rebels withdrew towards the general direction of Sitio Katindu, Barangay Malibatuan in Arakan. DMS
