Interior Secretary Eduardo Año on Thursday assured the South Korean government of South Korea that the 142 motorcycles they donated will be put to good use.
In an interview with reporters, Año said all motorcycles will be deployed in key cities nationwide.
"This will be used by patrols to make sure criminals will be arrested," he said.
"We value these contributions and I'm very sure we will put into good use all these motorbikes and ensure the public safety of our people. So our government is very thankful to the South Korea government," he added.
The interior secretary said the Philippine government value the friendship they have with South Korea.
Año,with Police General Oscar Albayalde, witnessed the turnover ceremony of 142 motorcycles donated by South Korea.
Albayalde said these latest additions to police mobility will be distributed in Metro Manila, Angeles City, Baguio City, Cebu City and Davao City to bolster anti-criminality and police visibility efforts.
“This is a noble move of our Korean counterparts as the PNP is stern to provide immediate response to incidents and crime in cities,” he said.
On July 12, 2017, the KOICA project agreement has been signed between the PNP and Korean Embassy on enhancing the criminal investigation capability and anti-criminality campaign of the PNP as the first cooperative project between the Republic of Korea and the Philippines.
KOICA said this the last tranche of the equipment support to the PNP under the Project titled “Enhancing the Criminal Capability of the Philippine National Police (PNP)” since 2017.
South Korean Ambassador Han Dong-Man said said they also invited around 200 police officers for training in Korea "to increase our cooperation with the Philippines." Ella Dionisio/DMS
