The Olongapo City Regional Trial Court on Wednesday sentenced Edgardo Luib to life imprisonment after he confessed to the killing of businessman Dominic Sytin inside Subic Bay Freeport Zone last November 18, 2018.
Olongapo City RTC Branch 72 Judge Richard Paradeza found Luib also guilty of frustrated murder for injuries sustained by Sytin’s bodyguard, Efren Espartero. Luib was sentenced to a minimum prison term of between six to 12 years.
During arraignment, Luib pleaded guilty murdering Sytin and for frustrated murder against Espartero.
Luib was arrested in Sto. Tomas, Batangas last March 5 due to arrest warrants over other murder cases, including that of journalist Mae Magsino and councilor Michael Caringal of Bauan, Batangas.
In an extrajudicial confession, Luib said Sytin’s younger brother, Alan Dennis, as the mastermind. Luib also tagged Ryan Rementilla. Alan Dennis and Rementilla are still at large.
Rementilla was working at United Auctioneers Inc when he was fired by Dominic for allegedly stealing P1 million.
In another order, the court dismissed a motion filed by the younger Sytin seeking to quash or suspend an warrant of arrest against him. DMS
