Palace asks gov’t agencies to look into mental state of COVID-19-affected persons
June 12, 2020
Malacañang urged on Thursday the concerned government agencies to check on the "mental" state of those adversely affected by the coronavirus disease after a seafarer allegedly committed suicide.
In a statement, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said the Palace is saddened by the unfortunate death of the seafarer on board the Harmony of the Seas for repatriation.
"Initial reports indicate the cause of death is suicide. Concerned authorities are now investigating the matter," he said.
"We ask relevant agencies of the government to look into mental anguish of those adversely impacted by the COVID-19," Roque added.
He noted the worldwide pandemic is "taking an emotional toll on everyone and we must help our countrymen how to cope with stress, fear and worry in this challenging time."
Roque said the government is also looking for ways to further expedite the return of the overseas Filipino workers from all over the world. Celerina Monte/DMS
