Palace: Drop in crime victimization rate belies black propaganda vs admin
November 1, 2019
Malacañang welcomed on Thursday the drop on the crime victimization rate as shown in a latest survey, belying black propaganda on the administration's crime prevention campaign.
The Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey last September showed a 5.6 percent or estimated 1.4 million of families reported victimization by any of the common crimes from the previous seven percent in June 2019.
The survey was conducted on September 27-30 using face-to-face interviews of 1,800 adults with sampling error margins of ±2.3 percent
Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said according to SWS the figure of families reporting victimization of any of the common crimes, which include pickpocket or robbery, break-ins, carnapping and physical violence, was the lowest registered since the 5.3 percent in June 2018.
"Once again, the people have clearly spoken. We consider this a clear repudiation of the black propaganda and the false narratives peddled by those belonging to the political opposition, the left, the activist members of the clergy, and the vocal critics of the President (Rodrigo Duterte) and the current government, which we expect would consciously refuse to see and deliberately look the other way around and say that this Administration's fight against crimes and drugs remains a failure," he said in a statement.
The September crime victimization survey validated government data that the campaign against illegal drugs and criminality, a centerpiece program of the administration, "is working effectively and efficiently with the results being significant, palpable, and meaningful," he stressed.
"It does not therefore take a rocket scientist to understand that the Chief Executive's performance, satisfaction, approval and trust ratings remain at the stratospheric level at the midpoint of his presidency," Panelo added.
The same survey, however, found 59 percent of Filipino adults were fearful of burglary, up by 4 points from the 55 percent in June.
It also showed that 47 percent were fearful of walking the streets at night, up by one point from the 46 percent in June.
It also found 38 percent noticing many drug addicts in the neighborhood, unchanged from the previous quarter. Celerina Monte/DMS
