Palace says Cayetano accountable to all SEA Games projects, including cauldron
November 19, 2019
Malacanang said on Tuesday House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano is accountable to all the projects and programs, related to the 30th Southeast Asian Games, including the alleged overpriced cauldron.
In a phone patch interview, Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said he has yet to talk to Cayetano regarding the P50-million giant cauldron built at the athletic stadium in New Clark City in Tarlac to be lighted during the SEA Games.
Cayetano chairs the Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee.
"Speaker Alan is accountable to all that related to the SEA Games. Whatever will be the problem, of course, he will be accountable," he said.
During the deliberation of the proposed budget of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority at the Senate, Minority Leader Franklin Drilon questioned the huge budget for the building of the SEA Games structure. BCDA is managing the New Clark City.
The opposition senator has said the fund could have been used instead for the construction of the classrooms.
Panelo said Cayetano should not be prejudged immediately for the project.
"He (Cayetano) would not do anything wrong with respect to the people's money," he said. Celerina Monte/DMS
