Malacañang said on Friday the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) isinvestigating the alleged violations of quarantine rules by a mayor in a town in Pangasinan and other police officials for holding a birthday party.
In a radio interview, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said no one is above the law.
"That is being investigated by the DILG because they have the supervision over the local officials," he said referring to the birthday party of Sto. Tomas Mayor Timoteo Villar III.
Some local officials and even policemen were seen on social media posts that during the party, social distancing and wearing of masks were not observed.
"Our message is, whoever you are, whether you are rich or poor, influential or no influence, the quarantine (that is being implemented) is for everyone's right to live," Roque said.
Those who would violate the quarantine rules would be penalized, he added.
The government has been enforcing community quarantine in the country to prevent further spread of coronavirus disease. Mass gathering is strictly prohibited. Celerina Monte/DMS
