Panelo asks commuters to ”be patient” over heavy EDSA traffic
August 8, 2019
Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo on Thursday asked the public to "be patient" amid heavy traffic brought by MMDA's (Metro Manila Development Authority) Yellow Lane policy.
In a press briefing, Panelo explained that heavy traffic along EDSA can also be attributed to changing weather.
"I agree on the traffic situation. It took me two hours from one place in Makati going to the celebration in the Singapore embassy," said Panelo.
"I think the rainy season has contributed to the density of traffic. MMDA is doing its level best to do something about it," he added.
The new traffic scheme directed city and provincial buses passing through EDSA to occupy two designated lanes to avoid congestion. The dry run was implemented on Monday despite a court order.
Panelo asked commuters to be more understanding. He also suggested construction of skyways as another solution for the heavy flow of traffic in EDSA.
"Well, we have to ask the commuters to be patient. I'm sure the MMDA is doing enough," he said.
"But actually, you know, the problem in EDSA, I think we need skyways for that. If you have a lot of skyways, I don't think there will be traffic. We need infrastructure," he explained. Cristina Eloisa Baclig/DMS
