PCG beefs up by recruiting former police, military
December 23, 2019
The Philippine Coast Guard recruited former members of Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and Philippine National Police (PNP).
Capt. Armand Balilo, Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) spokesman, said the 110 former members of PNP and AFP took their oath in a ceremony led by PCG Commandant Admiral Joel Garcia in Manila on Monday.
Balilo said the oathtaking ceremony is part of the recruitment program of the PCG.
“According to Admiral Garcia, the former soldiers were accepted to strengthen the PCG,” he said.
“The former soldiers are those who retired from AFP and PNP because of different reasons but they were 'separated with honor',” said Balilo.
Garcia challenged the new recruits to work hard and not to waste the second chanced given to them by the government, he added.
Balilo said the PCG is set to recruit 6,000 additional personnel in 2020 after recruiting 4,000 additional personnel this year. Robina Asido/DMS
