The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) rescued three fishermen off the waters of Sulu province on Thursday.
The PCG said its Search Operations Unit was conducting maritime patrol when it rescued the fishermen along waters off Sulade Island in Parang, Sulu around 1:05 am.
The fishermen identified as Wely Nasilin,30, Opasan Asaran, 28, and a 17-year old male were residents of Hadji Panglima Tahil, Sulu.
The PCG said, quoting the fishermen, their motorboat capsized due to big waves while on a fishing venture along the vicinity of waters off Pangutaran, Sulu.
"The rescued fishermen were immediately brought to Hadji Warrid Wharf in Patikul, Sulu for further assistance," said PCG.
"Since the fishermen were rescued in an Abu Sayyaf – infested area, they also underwent inquiries from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Jolo, Sulu for profiling and validation," it added.
The PCG said "the rescued fishermen were allowed to go home as they were declared by AFP and PNP as not connected to the Abu Sayyaf." Robina Asido/DMS
