PDEA head urges Filipinos not to vote those with possible links to drugs
February 18, 2019
Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) director general Aaron Aquino on Monday said some politicians may use money from illegal drugs to buy votes in May's midterm polls.
"There is no politician who would buy votes with money from whatever right means. Usually it is from corruption or illegal drugs. That's the reason they can throw away that money to buy votes," Aquino said in a radio interview over DZMM.
Aquino urges the public to not to vote those who they think are possibly involved in crime, corruption or illegal drugs.
"People are aware that during election (period), there really are rogue politicians who will buy their votes. So maybe they can accept the money but they should not vote for those politicians. In the end they will be the ones who will suffer if they vote for those politicians," he said.
He also added that voting for candidates who are allegedly linked to drug trade will also make it hard for authorities to clear areas from narcotics. Cristina Eloisa Baclig/DMS
