November 7, 2018
Tokyo--U.S. Vice President Mike Pence is likely to visit Japan on Tuesday for talks with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Taro Aso, according to Japanese government sources.
They are expected to discuss the situation involving China, as well as North Korea's denuclearization and abductions of Japanese nationals.
New trade talks Japan and the United States are expected to start as early as January are likely to be also on the agenda.
The Japanese government hopes that the meetings will confirm the two countries' commitment to economic and security cooperation.
Pence is likely to visit Japan before attending an East Asia summit in Singapore and a summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum in Papua New Guinea in mid-November on behalf of President Donald Trump. Jiji Press
