Philippines ready to help Filipinos in Congo, hit by Ebola outbreak
January 4, 2019
The Philippine government is prepared to help nearly 150 Filipinos in Congo as an Ebola outbreak killed 360 people in the second worst epidemic to hit Africa in recent years
The Philippine Embassy in Nairobi, which has jurisdiction over the Democratic Republic of the Congo, has informed the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) no Filipino has been infected.
“Chargé d'Affaires Francis Maynard Maleon said the embassy is in touch with the approximately 142 members of the Filipino community in Congo,” the DFA said in a statement Friday.
The outbreak, first reported in August, has spread to the eastern city of Butembo, a key trading and transport hub. DMS
