PLDT delays rolling out 5G services to ”early next year”
July 18, 2019
PLDT Inc. has reset commercial roll out of its fifth-generation (5G) services to early next year.
“I don’t think it will happen this year, but certainly sometimes next year, early next year,” Manuel V. Pangilinan, chairman and president of PLDT said in a briefing Thursday.
PLDT earlier said it was targeting to launch 5G services for home broadband and enterprises customers by fourth quarter.
Globe Telecom Inc. last month launched the country’s first commercial 5G fixed wireless broadband services.
“I think we need to determine the standards by which 5G will operate and of course we have to choose a vendor or vendors . I think we are testing wth Huawei. We are testing Ericsson , Nokia and maybe one more,” he added.
“So, over the next few months we will determine which vendors will choose for 5G,” Pangilinan said. DMS
