March 24, 2020

The Philippine Navy donated 50 personal protective equipment (PPE) from Laguna to the Lung Center of the Philippines in Quezon City.

Lt. Commander Maria Christina Roxas, Philippine Navy spokesperson. said "heeding the urgent call of Dr. Antonio Ramos of the Lung Center of the Philippines for PPE suits and isolation gown for medical personnel handling COVID-19 patients, the Philippine Navy (PN) engaged Tsukiden Philippines, LTI for the donation medical protective coverall or bunny suits."

On Monday, Ramos told dzMM the Lung Center has ''only 98 (suits left).'' On Monday night, Ramos said the Department of Health is sending them 220 PPE suits and 50 from private donors.

"Recognizing the ordeals of our health care workers on the frontline of this pandemic, the Navy Chief, Rear Adm. Giovanni Carlo Bacordo, directed concerned PN units to engage and coordinate with partner-stakeholders to help sustain the hospital’s capability to handle COVID-19 patients," she said.

Roxas said the Biñan-based electronic manufacturing company donated 50 bunny suits which was transported by the Philippine Navy on Monday night.

"PN personnel picked up and transported the donated medical coveralls to the Lung Center of the Philippines, demonstrating the Command’s ability to link donors to beneficiaries especially in this time of crisis," she said.

Roxas said according to Ramos the hospital “uses about 80 to 100 suits a day as it handles 40 patients."

Roxas said the donated bunny suits will augment the dwindling number of protective suits at Lung Center.

"The PN’s immediate response to facilitate and transport much needed medical equipment is in line with the flag officer in command’s directive to proactively assist the national government and other non-government organizations in the efforts to contain the further spread of the corona virus disease," she said.

"With this, the PN continuously appeals for more donations of needed equipment for our medical frontliners in the Lung Center of the Philippines as they are expanding their services after the government assigned it as among the country’s dedicated COVID-19 hospitals," she added. Robina Asido/DMS
