PNP alerts southern Mindanao regional offices for Dec. 7 Compostela Valley plebiscite

December 4, 2019

The Philippine National Police ( PNP) on Wednesday said they have alerted their regional offices in southern Mindanao, particularly in Compostela Valley as the Commission on Elections (Comelec) is set to hold a special plebiscite on December 7.

“The PNP high command has alerted the PNP Regional Office in Southern Mindanao, particularly the Compostela Valley Police Provincial Office to provide all available assistance as deputized agents of the Commission on Elections for the holding of a special plebiscite in Compostela Valley on December 7, 2019,” said Police Brigadier General Bernard Banac, PNP spokesperson.

Banac said the Compostela Valley police will be mainly responsible for enforcing rules and regulations of the Comelec, particularly the province-wide gun ban, liquor ban and other rules against prohibited acts.

“Other Police Provincial Offices and Regional Mobile Forces under PRO11 were also alerted to provide possible augmentation to COMVAL for this security operation,” he said.

On the Executive Order No.98 signed by President Rodrigo Duterte, Banac said the PNP is looking at better prospects for a uniform policy and guidelines governing the detail of military and police security personnel to civilian offices and officials.

“Executive Order No. 98 signed by President Rodrigo Duterte clearly defines and clarifies all gray areas surrounding the detail of members of the Philippine National Police and Armed Forces of the Philippines to civilian offices and officials,” he said.

“This latest issuance reinforces the authority of the PNP to deploy personnel to provide security to certain individuals subject to rules and conditions set under existing regulations and procedure,” he added.

Under Republic Act 6975, the PNP, mainly thru the Police Security and Protection Group, is mandated to provide security for government officials, foreign dignitaries and private individuals authorized to be given protection. Ella Dionisio/DMS
