PNP arrests 2,075 since start of election period

A total of 2,075 people have been arrested since the start of election period, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Friday.

The PNP said 199 persons were arrested at police checkpoints, 369 through search warrant, 23 were given warrant of arrest, 1,130 through police patrol response and 354 due to Oplan Bakal, Sita, and Galugad from 231,865 police operations.

Of the total arrests, 22 came from the PNP, three from the Armed Forces of the Philippines while five were from other law enforcement agency.

Twenty-seven arrested were government or elected officials, one from Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, 41 security guards, two CAFGUs, two members of private armed groups and 10 from threat groups.

Confiscated, recovered and surrendered firearms were recorded at 1,692 where 1,288 were small arms while 35 were light arms. 369 such as sumpak, improvised firearms, homemade firearms, and paltik.

Meanwhile, 13,699 deadly weapons were seized by authorities.

Out of the total, 12,389 were ammunition, 692 were bladed or pointed weapons, 387 were other explosives device, 97 were grenade and 67 were firearms replica.
