PNP asks cops to donate P10 each for Mindanao quake victims

November 4, 2019

The Philippine National Police ( PNP) encouraged officers to donate at least P10 to areas in Mindanao affected by the recent earthquakes.

“As an institution, as the OIC ( officer-in-charge) of the PNP, I would like to encourage everybody to put up or to give their contribution. Maybe we can start at P10 each and I know if we give something like this, it would help a lot for our constituents,” said Police Lt. General Archie Francisco Gamboa said during their flag raising ceremony at Camp Crame.

“I would like to encourage everybody that we start off with our voluntary contribution at P10 but of course it will not be limited to that especially to the generals who has high salaries. I hope you give bigger contribution,” said the PNP officer-in-charge.

The PNP has 190,000 personnel.

Gamboa assured the almost 100 PNP personnel who were affected in the earthquakes that the national headquarters will help them, especially on financial matters.

“As a matter of fact, I required all the financial institutions to offer them- maybe zero percent interest loan especially on house repair and soft loans for them,” he said in a press briefing.

“The PNP will be the one to address on the affected policemen but our donation will be for the constituents other than the PNP personnel,” he added.

Gamboa said they are canvassing the affected police stations.

Based on their data, 2, 756 personnel were fielded in Regions 10, 11 and 12 for search, rescue and relief operations.

“CIDG (Criminal Investigation and Detection Group) field units and local PNP units in these regions are supporting DTI (Department of Trade and Industry) and LGU (local government units) operations to strictly enforce a price freeze on basic commodities and essential goods in areas declared under state of calamity,” he said.

Magnitude 6.6 and 6.5 earthquakes jolted Mindanao last week which resulted to a combined 22 deaths. Ella Dionisio/DMS
