PNP asks cops to give P10 contribution to help Taal victims

January 13, 2020

The Philippine National Police ( PNP) on Monday asked cops to voluntarily donate P10 for the affected victims of Taal Volcano's eruption.

“Initially we are also extending our hand, as our help at the Philippine National Police, again, I am asking the members of PNP a 10 pesos voluntary contribution so that we can generate funds to help especially those Filipino who are misplaced by the reason of this disaster,” said Police Lieutenant General Archie Francisco Gamboa, PNP officer-in-charge, in a press briefing.

Gamboa said once they collect the contribution they will ask Calabarzon (Cavite-Laguna-Batangas- Rizal- Quezon) region what they need for them to deliver.

This is the second time Gamboa made this donation drive. Last November 4, he also asked police officers to donate at least P10 to areas in Mindanao affected by the recent earthquakes.

Gamboa said they collected around P3 million from the previous donation and he hope they will have the same amount this time.

“This is the same with what happened to the earthquake in Mindanao wherein we collected almost P3 million actually from the pockets of policemen. I even joked to the general to give more than P10 since they have higher salaries … we were able to generate that time P3 million so we are expecting also to generate that kind of amount… This is our way of helping those who are victims of this calamity,” Gamboa said.

In its 8am bulletin, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said Taal Volcano spewed lava fountains around 2:49 am to 4:28 am.

"This magmatic eruption is characterized by weak lava fountaining accompanied by thunder and flashes of lightning," it said.

Phivolcs raised the alert status of the volcano to 4 and around seven thousand residents were evacuated. Ella Dionisio/DMS
