PNP assures any destablization vs Duterte ”will not succeed”

The chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday said any destabilization plot against President Rodrigo Duterte “will not succeed”.
In an interview with reporters at Cordillera police headquarters in La Trinidad, Police General Archie Francisco Gamboa said the police and military are not plotting to oust the president during the 34th Anniversary of EDSA Revolution which will be celebrated Tuesday.
“There is none. That’s only rumors because they cannot muster ( forces). It has been history during the EDSA revolutions that we had. If it is without military and police backing, that will never succeed,” Gamboa said.
“I am confident it will not succeed especially with the kind of rating our president has. I think the entire country is contented with the performance of the president,” he added.
The PNP chief said since Duterte assumed his post, his ratings didn't even go down and even went up.
“So how can you muster an ouster movement if the showing of the president is like that?,” Gamboa asked.
He reminded the public to be vigilant and seek permits if they are planning to conduct rallies.
“Just be vigilant. The National Capital Region (Police Office) is in charge of that to secure those who would conduct rallies. As long as they have permits then we can always allow them,” he said.
“This is a free country, we can exercise our freedom of expression but of course under different limitations as provided for by law,” Gamboa added. Ella Dionisio/DMS
