The Philippine National Police ( PNP) on Thursday acquired P784 million worth of additional police equipment under the Capability Enhancement Program (CEP).

Police General Oscar Albayalde  witnessed the blessing of the newly-procured equipment at Camp Crame.

"This morning we have blessed a total of 95 newly procured 4x4 pickups which will be distributed in different stations nationwide and we also procured 10,000 striker fired 9 mm pistols, 78 units Negev light machine gun, 568,226 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 3,684 units Enhanced Combat Helmet and 2,255 units Tactical Vest Level III A with two upgrade plates," Albayalde told reporters.

"These will all be distributed in different line units of PNP and different police stations, and of course to our new recruits who are performing visibility patrols in different regions," he added.

Albayalde said the PNP Capability Enhancement Program aims to provide for and enhance basic operational requirements of every PNP unit, especially the municipal and city police stations, Regional Public Safety Battalions, Provincial Public Safety Companies and National Support Units.

"This is part of our Capability Enhancement Program that keep on increasing since the start of the Duterte administration," he said.

"Before our CEP is only around P2 billion per year but now it reached P4 billion. For the last three years, we have already acquired P22 billion for our CEP," he added.

According to Gamboa, the procurement is part of the continuing effort of the PNP leadership and the national government to enhance firepower, mobility, communication, and investigative capabilities of PNP operating units.

The Bureau of Customs also donated one brand new armored van and armored truck declared as abandoned and seized.

"It was donated to Police Regional Office 2," said Albayalde.

The vehicles underwent minimal repair and maintenance before being turned over to PNP. Ella Dionisio/DMS
