September 23, 2019

The Philippine National Police on Monday said their participation on the 39th ASEAN Association of Chiefs of Police (ASEANAPOL) Conference showed their strong partnership and cooperation with international law enforcement community.

“The active participation of the PNP in this annual conference is testament to the strong partnership and cooperation by the PNP with the international law enforcement community in the true spirit of ASEANAPOL solidarity against transnational crime and domestic crime concerns of member agencies,” Police General Oscar Albayalde said in a press briefing.

He said some significant highlights of their conference was on crime concerns common among ASEANAPOL-member national police agencies such as protection of women and children, and future cooperation on cybercrime, human trafficking, money laundering, terrorism, drugs, other transnational crimes; and other discussions on Exchange of Personnel and Training Programmes among ASEAN National Police Forces, Mutual Assistance in Criminal Matters and ASEAN Police Forensic Science Network.

Albayalde said the PNP also attended separate bilateral meetings with ASEANAPOL dialogue partners which are the Australian Police Force and the  UK National Crime Agency (NCA).

''We discussed capacity-building and capability enhancement of the Philippine Internet Crimes Against Children Center (PICACC) Project, including the Year 2 delivery of the PICACC Digital Forensics package, increased presence of UK-NCA in the Philippines and common counter terrorism initiatives,” he said.

Albayalde with a 20-man delegation were back after their five-day official mission in Hanoi last week.  Ella Dionisio/DMS
