October 17, 2019
Following the 6.3 magnitude quake in North Cotabato Wednesday and aftershocks, the Philippine National Police ( PNP) directed all regional units to ensure public safety and order.
"All police units in all regions in Mindanao have been directed to ensure public safety and order; conduct search and rescue operations; and assist the local government units and Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils (RDRRMC) in inspection and assessment of damage to properties," said Police Brigadier General Bernard Banac, PNP spokesperson, in an interview with The Daily Manila Shimbun.
According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), at least five people died while 53 were injured.
Banac said there are no reported casualties from their personnel or damages to their police structures.
Asked about the latest statistics in casualties, Banac said it will be the NDRRMC who will provide the data. "All reports will be given to them," he said. Ella Dionisio/DMS
