PNP disputes group’s comment on its police reports

September 24, 2019

The Philippine National Police ( PNP) on Tuesday defended their official reports in their operations after a law group described it as “rubbish”.

“The PNP maintains the validity of all official reports of police operations submitted,” Police Brigadier General Bernard Banac said in a statement.

“We stand by these reports despite how some quarters branded it according to how they perceive it and how it best serves their interest,” he added.

Banac said they will continue to do their mandate to serve and protect.

A news report on Monday said Center for International Law (CenterLaw) described PNP’s bulk of drug war documents which they submitted to the Supreme Court rubbish and totally irrelevant.

The group said 90.01 percent of the solved and the 55.80 percent unsolved cases submitted by the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) and the PNP are not drug-related cases.

“What the OSG and PNP virtually want is for the Supreme Court and the petitioners to utterly waste valuable time and resources examining case files which are totally irrelevant and, in fact, absolutely rubbish insofar as the instant cases are concerned," CenterLaw said.

CenterLaw examined 1,792 out of the 20,322 death cases during police anti-illegal drugs operations.

Because of what they found out, they want the SC to cite both the OSG and PNP in contempt.  Ella Dionisio/DMS
