April 26, 2019

The Philippine National Police ( PNP) ordered an investigation on the death of a 10-year-old who died when an improvised bomb exploded during Holy Week in Samar.

In a statement Friday, PNP spokesperson Colonel Bernard Banac said they are eyeing at the New People's Army as the suspect on detonating the homemade bomb in Barangay San Jorge, Las Navas on April 17 resulting in the death of a Grade 3 student Armando Jay Raymonde.

“The PRO8 (Provincial Regional Office 8) under Police Brigadier General Dionardo Carlos has ordered the speedy investigation of the incident, to identify suspects involved and file appropriate charges against them,” said Banac.

“The PNP joins the civil society and the nation in strong condemnation of this act of terror staged by the communist terrorists on Holy Week that killed a 10-year old Grade 3 schoolboy in Northern Samar,” he added.

Banac said an investigation is underway to build a strong case police will present in court against CPP-NPA ( Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army) personalities responsible for the attack.

“This latest atrocity by the communist terrorists in Northern Samar is apparently a vain attempt to regain lost ground after a recent series of tactical defeats in Eastern Visayas lately, including the failed try to lay siege on the town of Victoria and the failed attempt to overrun the Victoria Municipal Police Station last March 28,” he said.

Banac assured the public justice will be served and suspects will pay for their crime.

Banac said the PNP remains on full alert as part of security preparations for the May 13 polls.

“We will not allow any threat group and the enemies of the state any inch of ground to promote their lost cause and disrupt the May 13 midterm elections,” he said. Ella Dionisio/DMS
