PNP has not received request from Tulfos to restore their security

The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Thursday said they have not received any request from the Tulfo brothers to restore their security detail.

“They have not requested yet,” Police Colonel Bernard Banac said in a radio interview.

Last Saturday, Interior Secretary Eduardo Ano ordered eight police security detail not only of radio broadcaster Erwin Tulfo but his family pulled out.

For his part, Police General Oscar Albayalde the main reason is the PNP's periodic review of their personnel assigned to a protectee.

He added that the sudden outburst of Tulfo after Social Welfare Secretary Rolando Bautista denied his request for an interview is one of the factors why their police security detail was recalled.

"To be honest about it, that's one factor... but that's not the main reason," said Albayalde.

The PNP chief said they accepted the apology of Tulfo but said they will undergo the some process as other protectees.

When the issue of the recall was reported, netizens questioned the PNP on why the Tulfo brothers have a security detail.

Banac said anyone can request for a security detail if they feel that their life is in danger.

“Anyone who has a threat or their life is in danger may come to the PNP to request for an assistance for security,” he said. “But it will undergo a process of validation,” he added.

Banac said their priorities are those who been victims of heinous crimes such as kidnap for ransom, rape or attempted murder.

“Least priority are those people who only think they are in danger. We cannot give (security detail) to everyone,” he said. Ella Dionisio/DMS
