The Philippine National Police (PNP) honored Filipino and Allied veterans who fought Japanese soldiers during World War II as the country observed the Day of Valor on Tuesday.
Police General Oscar Albayalde, head of the PNP, led 90,000 men and women of the PNP in paying fitting tribute to the gallantry and heroism of Filipino soldiers and guerillas who fought side-by-side with American soldiers to free the Philippines from Japanese occupation.
“The undying gallantry of the Filipino heroes of Bataan and Corregidor lives-on in the ranks of the police service, immortalized by modern day heroes who offered the supreme sacrifice for God, country and people; and those who continue to wage the national crusade against crime, drugs, terrorism and corruption,” Albayalde said in a statement.
Different police units and offices were laid out for security coverage, traffic management, and other related public safety services to secure venues and event areas of the Araw ng Kagitingan ceremonies.
The Philippine Veterans Week which will be celebrated from April 5 to 11 will be commemorated with simultaneous flag raising and wreath-laying ceremonies in PNP camps and war memorial shrines in various locations nationwide.
“We commemorate this momentous event to mark and remember the heroism of our Filipino war veterans coinciding with different meaningful activities in participation of all government agencies, including the PNP, representing the law enforcement sector," Albayalde said. Ella Dionisio/DMS
