PNP hopes Duterte will choose its next head soon

October 30, 2019

The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Wednesday hoped President Rodrigo Duterte will choose soon the next head of the organization.

In a TV interview, Police Brigadier General Bernard Banac, PNP spokesperson said not having a next chief PNP sooner will have an effect on the organization’s big projects.

“We are hoping that anytime soon the president would name, choose a new PNP chief,” he said.

Banac said their officer-in-charge, Police Lieutenant General Archie Francisco Gamboa is doing well.

“It has not affected our law enforcement operations, all programs are in place and continuing and as of now we are in the midst of Undas (November 1) preparation and so far we have not encounter any problem,” he said.

“He is performing his job as officer-in-charge of PNP,” he added.

Gamboa is one of the three candidates to be the next PNP chief with deputy chief for operations Lieutenant General Camilo Pancratius Cascolan and chief of directorial staff Major General Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar.

Duterte, in a TV interview Tuesday night, admitted he is having a hard time in choosing the next PNP chief. Aside from their records, Duterte is also considering “honesty” as one of his requirements.

"My only consideration, the only standard, the only thing that I would ask for of the, of the next PNP chief is honesty," he said.

"Even if you are dumb, you are not number one in the class when you were with the PNPA, or PMA, even if you are the goat of the class but if you are the honest guy, I will go for you," Duterte added. Ella Dionisio/DMS
