PNP on high alert after Communists ordered intensified attacks

December 13, 2018

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has placed its forces on high alert after the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) ordered intensified attacks in response to the extension of martial law in Mindanao.

“Police mobile strike forces earlier deployed to 10 provinces in Eastern Visayas, Negros Island and Bicol region have linked up with their AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines) counterparts in an active defense posture to strengthen community defenses against the CPP/NPA (Communist Party of the Philippines-National Democratic Front/New People's Army),” PNP Director General Oscar Albayalde said in a statement Thursday.

He  hit the CPP, including its founder Jose Ma. Sison, for ordering communist rebels to step up attacks.

“The latest order of Joma Sison of the CPP to its armed wing NPA exposed anew the culture of lies, deception and violence of the aging underground movement in its 50-year rebellion to wrest power from government,” Albayalde said.

“We urge our people to maintain vigilance and not be intimidated by this vain attempt by the CPP/NPA to salvage its waning reputation and regain lost support of the masses that they continue to terrorize and oppress,” he said. DMS
