PNP preparing report on local official who removed backing to the police

The Philippine National Police ( PNP) on Tuesday said it is preparing a report to the Department of Interior and Local Government over an alleged “unprofessional” act of a local chief executive in the rastern part of Metro Manila.
“I asked the RD (Regional Director) of NCRPO (National Capital Region Police Office) to make a report and then we will endorse him to SILG (Interior Secretary) and SILG will probably make him explain or show cause on why,” Albayalde said in a press briefing.
Albayalde called the local officials “unprofessional” for removing his support to the police organization after the PNP promoted a police officer he recommended without informing him.
“I was just surprised why he did that just because we removed the chief of police and promoted him as chief. We placed an OIC (Officer-in-Charge). He got mad and even removed the police hotlines in the whole city,” he said.
“We don’t know why. This is all part of our crime prevention and crime solution efforts. So as a mayor, why will you remove it? So I think that is very unprofessional, that is very childish of him,” he added.
Albayalde did not mention the name of the official since its election time.
“As I have said it is in the eastern police here in Metro Manila. We really don't know why.... I could not mention the name just for sensitivity because its election time,” he said.
He added they cannot make a position vacant for so long especially if it entails the career advancement of an officer.
“There's nothing written in the law that you have to inform the local chief executive if you will remove the chief of police. What is written in the law is they have the right to choose from among the recommendees that we will give them,” said Albayalde.
“I hope they will not abuse it. That is what written in the law. They will be made to choose also that’s why we placed an OIC or acting so that they will have time to choose their own when the time comes,” he said.
The PNP chief said they are not violating any law and they have no intention of insulting any local chief executive. Ella Dionisio/DMS
