PNP says 478 ”problematic” cops graduates of a criminology school

The Philippine National Police ( PNP) on Monday said policemen who graduated from a criminology school are not performing well.
In a press briefing, Police Lieutenant General Archie Francisco Gamboa said an initial study they commissioned showed 478 “problematic” cops from the National Capital Region Police Office were products of a certain criminology school.
Gamboa did not name the institution as the study has yet to be completed. He is expecting its release within this month.
“So that by February, we will be able to come up with policies,” he said.
“Once we have the complete result- we really want to intervene on the preparation of this would be policemen at the college level… There will be a lot of things that’s going to come out on the study that will help PNP to come up with improve and better resource policy,” he added.
Gamboa said these cops have cases ranging from tardiness to being involved in criminal activities.
''When the schools were tallied, they were able to identify that all the cops went there so probably we will visit the college… I am not saying that the school is bad, probably they did not see this angle and we are here to provide them the results on the behavior of their students once they enter service,” he said.
“But there are other determinants when it comes to service, like ‘Who are you with? What is your assignment unit? Who is your leader?’ We cannot say it’s all fault of the school that’s why we are waiting for the study to have extensive discussion on the probable sources of policemen entering PNP,” Gamboa added.
The PNP commissioned the study as they welcomed 17,000 new recruits for this year.
Gamboa said on top of the administrative management initiatives for the year is the continued development of the PNP’s greatest resource which is its manpower. Ella Dionisio/DMS
