PNP says DILG will still supervise their procurement process
January 20, 2020
The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday said Interior Secretary Eduardo Ano will supervise their procurement process even after President Rodrigo Duterte appointed their new leader.
In a press briefing, PNP chief Police Lieutenant General Archie Francisco Gamboa said Duterte told him that Ano will handle the procurement process which he ordered last week after finding out PNP’s procurement of speed guns which he called “overpriced”.
“The procurement function still remains to the PNP but even the President told me that it will be under strict supervision of the secretary of DILG,” he said.
“Even the secretary assured the President he will review all our actions so that he can also insure to himself that these are corruption and graft free transactions,” he added.
Gamboa said they submitted their explanation and Duterte appreciated it. However, he said it was not discussed during their dinner meeting in Davao City when he was appointed as the new chief PNP.
“We said it was a wrong presentation. Wrong terms used and then wrong pictures used... there was already an explanation provided for and the President is appreciative on the explanation,” he said.
Earlier, Gamboa said their big ticket projects will not be affected by Duterte’s order of removing procurement powers from the organization. Ella Dionisio/DMS
