PNP says few police personnel under gov’t drug list

March 21, 2019

The Philippine National Police ( PNP) on Thursday said there are few police personnel under the government’s drug watch list, its spokesman said.

“Right now, there are only few of our police officers are on the watch list,” Senior Superintendent Bernard Banac, police spokesperson said in a media briefing.

According to their data, around 441 police personnel were dismissed from service due to their involvement in illegal drugs.

Banac said of the 441, 332 were positive drug users, 111 were dismissed for possession, selling, and protectors of illegal drugs.

“All were removed and no longer receiving benefits,” he said.

Banac said they are still conducting validation but there are only few police officers are being involved.

“We can say that we are monitoring around one or two policemen in the watch list but we are not complacent because of the possibility that someone will not follow the rules and regulations,” said Banac.

Though there are police officers being caught involvement in illegal activities such as illegal drugs and extortion, Banac said these are only “isolated cases”.

“These are just isolated cases that we can say they choose to violate the law and we are expecting that through our internal cleansing program, there will be no officers who will do illegal acts,” he added. Ella Dionisio/DMS
