PNP says it has not monitored threats vs Duterte
April 5, 2019
The Philippine National Police (PNP) said they have not received any threat on President Rodrigo Duterte’s life after the Presidential Security Guard placed a bulletproof glass in front of him while speaking in Malabon City last Tuesday.
“There is no validated death threat upon the life of PRRD ( President Rodrigo Roa Duterte),” PNP spokesperson, Police Colonel Bernard Banac, said Thursday.
He said the PNP will always be vigilant in providing security for the president.
Banac said threats against the safety of Duterte are present since he is very serious in fighting drug syndicates, communist terrorists, and criminals.
“It is the role of the Presidential Security Group (PSG) to always ensure that security and safety measures are set in place, including the bulletproof glass casing in situations where they are needed most,” he said.
PSG commander Brig. Gen. Jose Eriel M. Niembra said in a statement Wednesday it is their mandate to protect the president, "with or without outstanding threat."
He said it is but "imperative" for PSG to implement the highest security protocol. Ella Dionisio/DMS
