PNP says it may face difficulty next year if no leader is chosen

The Philippine National Police ( PNP) on Tuesday said the organization may face difficulty by next year if President Rodrigo Duterte has not chosen their next leader.
In an interview with reporters, Police Brigadier General Bernard Banac, PNP spokesperson, said their operations continue this year under Police Lieutenant General Archie Francisco Gamboa, the PNP’s officer-in-charge.
“There is still no effect right now. PNP’s operation continues but once January enters, we expect some problems because there are contracts (and) renewal that need to be signed,” Banac said.
“But for the rest of the year we don’t see any problem,” he added.
Police General Oscar Albayalde retired last November 8 after he stepped down as PNP chief last month over the controversy he faced over the alleged Pampanga “ninja cops” in a Senate hearing.
Banac said President Rodrigo Duterte may announce Albayalde’s successor by next week.
“Until now, there are still no indication when will the president announce the next chief PNP. The president may announce it by next week but this is not sure. It’s on his power when he wants to announce who he choose as the next chief PNP,” he said. Ella Dionisio/DMS
