PNP says more 9,000 cops determined to serve country

October 22, 2019

Despite recent challenges, the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Tuesday said more than 9,000 police officers have answered the call to serve the country.

According to PNP's officer-in-charge, Police Lieutenant General Archie Francisco Gamboa, from a pool of 38,357 applicants for patrolman processed by the Police Regional Offices and National Support Units this year, a total of 9,451 remained after a selection process that examined the fitness of every candidate according to the minimum standards set by the PNP.

“Ten thousand more young men and women have taken the challenge to serve our country and people as rookie patrol officers of the Philippine National Police in the 2019 regular recruitment program to fill the annual 10,000 vacancies for police recruits,” he said in a statement.

Of the 9,451, 7,546 male and 1,905 female candidates who had been sworn into the police service to the initial rank of patrolman.

Gamboa said they will have a basic monthly salary of P29,668.00 and other allowances.

They will also undergo the mandatory six-month Public Safety Basic Recruit Course (PSBRC) in the National Police Training Institute (NPTI) and another six months of field training before they will be returned to their mother units on full duty status.

“Because the Filipino people deserve only the highest quality of law enforcement and public safety services that the PNP can offer, we make sure that only the best and most qualified applicants are recruited into the police force who will someday lead the organization,” he said.

The PNP is authorized by the National Police Commission to recruit 10,000 new police personnel this year.

The unfilled quota of 549 recruits in the Police Regional Offices was allocated to the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) for processing to complete 100 percent fill-up of the annual recruitment quota.  Ella Dionisio/DMS
